School board members who voted this man president several times and supported all his efforts need to answer why they supported him until the voters did their job for them and voted him out. This must be about the 6th separate issue he has been linked to in the last couple of years, not counting all the ones previous to this. There are still many people on this board who supported his every move. Why?

We deserve Phil Martell.
It's who we voted for.
Same can be said for Fran Posa.

These guys were opportunists in our sleepy little town of Elizabeth.
They were smart.
The voters who elected them were the dumbest of the dumb (and arguably as corrupt as their elected officials).
They did, however, have one thing going for themselves.
They had the energy to go a ballot box and vote them in.
The rest of us just sat on our asses.
Some of our elected officials count on voters to stay home.
That's how they win.

Should membership in the Boy Scouts of America be a criterion for elected office?
Hardly.
Neither should graft, malfeasance, or a flirtatious relationship with felony.

Phil Martell and Fran Posa have one intellectual sliver the rest of us simply don't have: the art of the con.
I personally think it's a genetic inheritance, but Harry Houdini would have been proud of both men. Machiavelli would have been prouder still.

Posa also knows that our comatose little hamlet will soon go back to sleep, if it hasn't already done so.
For as vacuous as Posa is, he still has the savvy to calculate just how short-lived our memories really are.
I just think it's a curious phenomenon that Martell and Posa both use the same attorney;

Charles J. Lopresti.

Posa will seek reelection.
For approximately two months prior to the election, the irate and indignant will stampede onto ElizabethBoro.com and bitch in their two cents worth, regarding local politics and the corruption they can never quite nail down.

The day after the election, it will be business (and corruption) as usual, managed by the usual suspects. The rest of the school board will, once again, turn a blind eye.
And we'll, once again, be back to square one.
Therein lies an unpalatable reality none of us want to swallow.

The voters eventually woke up and voted Martell out. What's the board excuse for electing him president? It's a lot more than Posa. It's people who have been there for decades.

The long overdue 2014-15 audit of the Wilkinsburg School District paints a picture of a district with lax financial controls, including improper bank reconciliations, no checks and balances in payroll processing, and a lack of documentation for federal reports.

The audit, presented at a school board meeting Tuesday, showed the district ended the 2014-15 school year with a deficit of $1.8 million, despite the fact that the board believed it had approved a balanced budget for that year. That total includes $880,766 from the 2014-15 school year and nearly $1 million from the 2013-14 school year.

Auditor Betsy Krisher of the firm Maher Duessel said that although the board approved a balanced 2014-15 budget, the budget presented to the state showed a shortfall of $208,000 that was to be covered by the fund balance. But in reality there was no fund balance; instead the district had a $966,000 deficit.

Questioned by board members, Ms. Krisher indicated it was former director of business affairs Philip Martell’s responsibility to submit the budget to the state.

Poor Penn Hills. Wonder how those 40 furloughed teachers feel about their union now? I actually do feel sorry for them, but they could have done more to prevent those furloughs. I have friends in EF. I'm hoping they're paying attention.

Connellsville, you will get what you asked for. Much bigger budget to play with.

There are clear and distinct reasons as to why black clouds always seem to follow certain people around.

Actually, Martell resigned his position in Connellsville to avoid misappropriation charges. The DA clarified this at the last School board meeting and presented a check for restitution to the school board.

Interesting that they are still investigating other claims according to what was said.
